Acknowledge the right to retain civil laws: Seminar

Kayamkulam: Seminar titled ‘Civil laws and Life Perspectives’ held here called to acknowledge the right of each community to have their own civil laws. The overreaching arms of the state in religious sphere are dangerous, the seminar said. Writer P. Surendran inaugurated the seminar. Swami Aswati Tirunal said it is deplorable that, the state is encroaching over civil rights. 

Society should try to change the misconceptions about the civil laws of Islam, said Sheikh Mohammed Karakunnu.  Sero Malabar Church spokesman Fr. Paul Telakkattu, Jamaate Islami district president Abdul Hakim Panavally, General Secretary Navas Jamal, secretary Y. Irshad and others talked.
